Picking Spelling Flowers

January 20, 2017 by Amy Smith

Add some fun to your child’s spelling list or sight words with this adorable Picking Spelling Flowers game!   Learning with plain old notecards gets boring for kids, so transform the notecards into these simple flowers and watch their motivation for learning grow!

Make learning more fun with this kids' game! Teach spelling words, letters, numbers, or shapes to your kids with these flowers. Perfect for school or home

How to Make

Cut out some flower shapes with colored paper and write one spelling word on the flower (use both sides to save paper and time)

Stick the straw into some PlayDoh in order to keep it upright

Then cut a slit in the straw on one end to fit the paper flower into

How to Play

Once the flowers are assembled, ask the child to find the flower with the specific word on it

Once the child finds the flower, have the child pick it off the stem and place it in a pile.

Repeat until all the flowers have been picked

Materials Needed

Straws

Modify It

Instead of writing spelling words, use letters, numbers, or shapes depending on your child’s learning level.

Use kid tweezers or clothespins rather than their fingers to pick the flowers to enhance their fine motor skills.

Enjoy!

Be as creative as you want in making the flowers.  You can even add in a watering can or a vase to make it into a more fun, imaginary game! You can watch your little one “grow” right along with these flowers! Have fun!
