Easiest Way to Tie Shoes

October 18, 2016 by Amy Smith

Want to learn the easiest way to tie shoes? Being able to tie your own shoes can feel like a right of passage for kids and in their minds, it’s what can transform them into official “big kid” status.

Learn a new technique that makes shoe tying easier for kids. This method is especially good for kids with fine motor or visual motor deficits. Watch the video to find out how to do it today!

On the contrary, many children face embarrassment and ridicule if they can’t tie their shoes.  Even though learning how to tie your shoes is difficult, kids tend to feel ashamed when they can’t do it, especially if their friends can.  Shoe tying gets even more complex if you have obstacles like fine motor deficits, poor attention span, or visual motor problems.

There is hope for kids who are struggling with shoe tying because thankfully, there are new techniques and strategies to try.  I have found the technique in this video to be one of the easiest and best ways to teach shoe tying.  It requires less finger dexterity and is easier to see where the strings go in comparison to the traditional way.   Taking time to watch this 1 minute video will save yourself hours of frustration trying to teach kids the traditional way to tie shoes.

If your child still struggles with shoe tying after practice and trying different methods, there are alternatives to try as well.  There are lots of shoes that don’t have laces and there are lots of fashionable elastic laces available now too.  There are also engaging fine motor self-care boards that help kids practice their fine motor skills needed for buttoning, zipping, and tying.  Check out the Amazon products below for some alternatives.

Remember, don’t get your laces all into knots… Try these shoe tying strategies today!
