Welcome To Kids Play Smarter 
I am Amy Smith, OTR/L, MA; an occupational therapist who works with children to help them become the best version of themselves! I have over 10 years of experience working with children and adolescents with various types of special needs. I am also a mom of two children so I have experience from the parent side of things as well. Between my experience as an occupational therapist and as a mom, I know that ALL kids can benefit from the activities on this website, regardless of skill level.
What This Website Does: Kids Play Smarter provides ideas for kids in the areas of fine motor activities, gross motor activities, sensory regulation ideas, handwriting help, and specialized tips from an occupational therapist. The website illustrates hands-on games, activities, and strategies that are specifically designed to maximize mental and kinesthetic (body) learning. The main principles of the activities on this website are supported by evidence based research. See my section titled, Free Research Articles to view the literature that supports the use of play activities, movement, sensory integration strategies, and occupational therapy on child development. I believe that all kids, no matter their skill level can always become better versions of themselves and that’s my goal in publishing this website.
Credentials: Amy attended Xavier University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and later attended the University of Cincinnati and received her Master’s of Arts Degree in Educational Studies. She has worked as an adjunct professor in the Occupational Therapy Departments at both Xavier University and Cincinnati State College. She has lead round table discussions at Ohio Occupational Therapy Association State Conferences, and presented at various workshops and learning seminars in her 10+ years of experience as an occupational therapist.
